Why is Mary Queen of Heaven? Her coronation is not in the Bible. Her queenship was not formally a feast and teaching of the church until 1954. Yet the title first surfaced in the fourth century. Mary’s royalty derives from the biblical image of Christ the King. If Jesus is the Prince of Peace of David’s royal line, that makes Mary queen mother. Psychologist Carl Jung deemed this teaching brilliant, filling a human need to balance the patriarchy of heaven with a venerable female.
