The Theology of the Body and the Color Pink

Fr. Thomas Loya

What!!?? NFL football players running around the field wearing pink? AWW, COME ON! Boy, has this been painful for me to watch. I know—its “breast cancer awareness month” and that’s the reason for the pink. Gee, maybe we should raise awareness for prostate cancer too and have the NFL players run around with a pink balloon on their behinds that can be gradually expanded during the game. First of all, I just cannot associate the color pink with these tough guys. More importantly it is watching our entire society caught up in yet another one of those let’s-all-do-this-together-and-feel-good about ourselves fads that are actually a big fat lie.

There is a fundamental insincerity and dishonesty in the whole breast cancer awareness month fad. The culture that expects us all to run around wearing pink in hopes for a breast cancer cure, is the very culture that promotes some of the leading causes of breast cancer—contraception and abortion. These causes are lifestyle based and their preventions do not cost a dime. But women are not told any of this. In fact much of the pharmaceutical and medical industry, including the National Cancer Institute, has purposely concealed this vital information from women. There is a proven link between contraceptives, abortion and the incidence of breast cancer in women. For scientific reporting on this I would suggest that you visit the following sources just to name a few: http://www.bcpinstitute.org/, http://www.noroomforcontraception.com/, http://www.catholicbioethics.com/, http://www.ccli.org/.  ....
