Our first impression is often that this searching is something of our own, something that we somehow initiate and pursue of ourselves. But in truth this insatiable yearning is a response to God who has first chosen us and who has first made his home in us (Jn 15:4, 16).
We are drawn irresistibly to him solely because he has first sought us out in a most personal and intimate love. "This is the love I mean: not our love for God, but God's love for us ... because he loved us first" (1 Jn 4:10,19).
