NUMBER 112 - Review of Ignatian Spirituality

“Friends in the Lord”: this is not just another theme among others for a meeting of Jesuits. It touches every aspect of our life – our personal history that we are living or desiring to live now; it brings into play also our life as companions of Jesus, the life of the Company and the witness given to Christ through what we let be seen and heard of our union among ourselves: union of hearts.

I would like to say a few words now: I would rather not make this talk into a homily, nor have it as the final word because I would prefer that the last word of our meeting be left to the Word of God that we will be praying, to the Spirit of God who leads us, each by our own way and together so as to desire even more what we have understood to be the reality forever unfinished – not what one believes to know and possess but that for which we are constantly risking as we respond anew to the call of Christ.

To live as “friends in the Lord”, requires an attitude of spirit and of heart. And the risk that we run always, when we speak of friendship, is the one of idealism, and of lofty expectation, wished for or hoped for in the relationship among ourselves. Now you recall that “down to earth” side of Ignatius: a realism that led him not to neglect any detail, a sense of the real and of the Incarnation which brought him to seek what is most desirable and what is most universal in what is the most concrete and elementary. It is important not to lose sight of what is most elementary in our human and christian experience when we speak of our desire to become ever more “friends in the Lord”. It is important first of all to take care of the ground, of the human earth that we are, because it is there that friendship must put down roots and grow.

"As she has never failed to do, again today the Church continues to recommend the practice of spiritual direction, not only to all those who wish to follow the Lord up close, but to every Christian who wishes to live responsibly his baptism, that is, the new life in Christ. Everyone, in fact, and in a particular way all those who have received the divine call to a closer following, needs to be supported personally by a sure guide in doctrine and expert in the things of God. A guide can help defend oneself from facile subjectivist interpretations, making available his own supply of knowledge and experiences in following Jesus. [Spiritual direction] is a matter of establishing that same personal relationship that the Lord had with his disciples, that special bond with which he led them, following him, to embrace the will of the Father (cf. Luke 22:42), that is, to embrace the cross."

Ba ngày cuối tuần đã trôi qua một cách thật là nhanh chóng…Khóa Canh tân đời sống Hôn Nhân lần thứ 14, tổ chức vừa qua tại nhà thờ Các Thánh Tử Đạo VN (Arlington) đã kết thúc vô cùng tốt đẹp trong một tâm tình lưu luyến và bịn rịn của mọi người.

Một cuối tuần cùng đồng hành, để lắng nghe và chia sẻ tâm tình với các anh chị em xa gần cùng đến tham dự khóa, quả thật là tuyệt vời!

Những nụ cười vui tươi trước sự khôi hài dí dõm của các anh chị điều khiển chương trình, những bước học tập Tài Chi để giúp anh em rảng gân cốt giữa những giờ học, điệu nhạc vui nhộn của bài “60 năm cuộc đời” để thay thế tiếng rung chuông nhắc nhở mọi người trở về phòng hop hoặc dùng để phạt anh em về trễ phải nhảy theo vũ điệu twist, những giọt nước mắt đầy cảm thông và tâm tình xúc động trước những lời chân tình của các cặp vợ chồng thuyết trình viên…Những bửa ăn sáng và trưa đầy đủ chất lượng và thật ngon lành do anh chị Tân và Trúc Anh đảm nhiệm cùng với sự hổ trợ behind the scene của cả một đội ngũ các cô bác và anh chị em volunteers...Buổi TIỆC HỒNG TÌNH YÊU với thực đơn 3 món "à la cuisine francaise" do dì Mười (ca đoàn Seraphim) đích thân đứng ra tổ chức và nấu nướng "with Love", ổ bánh cưới 3 tầng tuyệt đẹp, rượu champagne mặn nồng và những bản hát nhẹ nhàng du dương do mini band của anh Bửu cùng các bạn trẻ nhóm Con Cá trình bày...Bản nhạc hòa âm "Tình Chúa Yêu con" thật là tuyệt vời do toàn thể ca đoàn Seraphim trình bày trong buổi thánh lể bế mạc của ngày Chúa Nhật ...Tất cả đã để lại trong lòng của Bảo và Monique một ấn tượng sâu sắc và một kỷ niệm đẹp thật là khó quên.

Quả thật không sai, những lời anh Long đã nói: :"Thêm một lần nữa mình cảm nhận được cái gì rất "nhiệm mầu" của tình cộng đoàn, một cộng đoàn phục vụ, a community in action, được nhìn thấy Chúa làm việc qua anh chị em mình..."

Chúng ta có thể nhận thấy được rất rõ ràng sự hiện diện của Thiên Chúa ở giữa tất cả mọi người (kẻ tham dự cũng như người phục vụ) trong suốt thời gian sinh hoạt của Khóa vừa qua.

Bao and I have had such a wonderful, beautiful and memorable experience we have ever had before, while attending this Marriage Renewal Workshop of last week.Tạ ơn Chúa đã ban cho vợ chồng chúng con cùng tất cả mọi người tham dự khóa CTDSHN 14 vừa qua những món quà vô cùng quý giá về: "TÌNH NGHĨA VỢ CHỒNG" , "TÌNH GIA ĐÌNH", "TÌNH NGƯỜI" và "TÌNH CỘNG ĐOÀN". Cũng xin gởi lời chân thành cám ơn đến toàn thể Ban tổ chức cùng tất cả các anh chị em tình nguyện viên (working behind the scene) đã đóng góp mọi công sức để thực hiện và hoàn thành một chương trình CTDSHN thật là tuyệt vời như vừa qua.
