O Holy Night

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
'Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angels' voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night divine!

Newcomers 2009!

Forty-two men made the decision to join the Society of Jesus this year in the United States. They arrived, bags in hand, at the Jesuit novitiates in Culver City, California; Grand Coteau, Louisiana; Berkeley, Michigan; Syracuse, New York; and Portland, Oregon. They hailed from Tampa, Tacoma, Albuquerque, Cleveland, and many points in between, and arrived on different weekends in August. They come with a variety of experiences, education, and interests, as these short biographies will testify. All in all, they’re united in one aspect: a desire to do God’s work as Jesuits ...

Prayerful thought from St. Ignatius of Loyola

I can love a person in this life only insofar as he tries to advance in the praise and service of God our Lord; for the man who loves anything for itself and not for the sake of God, does not love God with his whole heart.

Hướng về Chúa - 5

(5)

Discontent is the force that makes us search persistenly for an answer to our deepest aspirations. The experience of difficulties invites us to turn to God, seeking a strength beyond our habitual reserves … The word closest to it in a religious context is “desire”.
